Actor Melvyn Hayes, most famous for playing ‘Gloria’ Beaumont in the classic 1970′s sitcom ‘It Ain’t Half Hot Mum’ is angry about the decision to demolish five of the eight studios at the site of BBC Television Centre. Here he reflects on his personal memories of working there:
“My first BBC job was in 1952. Four years later, I went on to play Skinner in Billy Bunter of Greyfriars School, and later still, I was Bombardier Beaumont in It Ain’t Half Hot Mum. I worked through the glory years of television, many of them at BBC Television Centre with people like Eric Sykes, and it breaks my heart to see this happening to these wonderful studios. Save BBC Television Centre.”
