We are delighted to have the backing of one of television’s fiercest opponents of wrong-doing. Esther Rantzen is the spokesperson for our campaign. Esther says…
It seems extraordinary that the BBC now has no entertainment studio in London, nowhere in the capital to make their flagship current affairs output. The brilliantly designed studios in TVC were crucial to the success of the nation’s favourite programmes, like Strictly Come Dancing, The Two Ronnies, Ab Fab and Fawlty Towers.
Literally hundreds of spellbound tourists visited the Centre to feel the unique atmosphere of the eight historic studios, right up to the very moment when the lights went out and the doors were locked for good. Where will the next General Election programme be made? Where will Children in Need and Comic Relief come from? We know there is a worrying lack of studio space in London.
The phrase “And now, live, from Television Centre” heralded so many landmark programmes, the loss of TVC leaves a broadcasting vacuum in the nation’s capital. How can the BBC put a demolition ball through this iconic media cathedral?

I support the campaign in every way. TV Centre is now a part of our heritage. It should be a listed building. The Reithian principles have all but been abolished and the destruction of the building is the last straw. The modern BBC has lost touch with what made it the most respected TV station in the world. Maybe it’s not too late to reverse the trend.
